These annual fees are for full-time students who begin this undergraduate course here in 2022. Common roles for graduates include computer programmer, software designer and engineer, financial analyst and scientific researcher. According to figures complied by the Higher Education Statistics Agency , Computer Science graduates from Oxford attract median salaries of £65,000 just 15 months after finishing their degree, more than those from any other course. All candidates must follow the application procedure as shown inapplying to Oxford.

  • At Newcastle, all Computer Science students study the same modules for the first two years, before specialising in the later years.
  • A representative of recent non-relational trends is presented—namely, graph-oriented databases.
  • Please contact our enquiries team if you’re not sure that you have the right experience or qualifications to get onto this course.
  • Each stage lasts for one academic year, and you’ll complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each stage.

You’ll also spend time working on your individual research project later on in the course, in addition to timetabled activity. Make immediate and effective contributions as part of multidisciplinary teams in industry, consultancy or education, by managing workloads, optimising resources and meeting deadlines, using experiences from team projects. This module covers some of the essential skills and knowledge which will help you to study independently and produce work of a high academic standard which is vital for success at York. We welcome applications from students who may not meet the stated entry criteria but who can demonstrate their ability to pursue the course successfully.

Final Year Modules

You will learn about aspects of object-programming applied to high-level real-time 3D graphics toolkits using the C++ programming language. You will study the mathematics of graphical transformations and apply this within computer laboratories in which real-world applications can be demonstrated. Our flagship BSc Computer Science course will provide you with a broad understanding of the field of computing with a core specialism in programming. You’ll develop an understanding of methodical approaches to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of object-oriented systems using the Java language. You’ll graduate with a solution-focused approach and a critical awareness of applying the right skills to complete a specific goal.

However, the whole female to male ratio is so ironic as Ada Lovelace was the world’s first computer programmer so I think it’s safe to say that having a role model to look up to couldn’t have been any more inspirational and empowering. As a female in STEM, I feel strong as I can break the norms and stereotypes of others and work together with my peers to come up with solutions to problems. The computer science department held an event for world women’s day and female and male students from our course came together to celebrate women all over the world and women in Tech. I hope that it will be an annual event for many more of our students to celebrate in the future.

Optional Placement Year

Even without completing an optional placement year, there may be opportunities to make a difference to real businesses by creating useful applications or by providing consultancy for clients. When our new engineering and design facility is launched, students in engineering, science and the arts will have access to a range of specialist equipment and innovative laboratories. The agile methodology – which is a common approach to development – is inherent during your project work. You will mirror the industry when collaborating with other students to create a complete system from concept to delivery.

Facilities And Work Experience

You also build neural networks using state of the art simulation technology and apply these networks to the solution of problems. In addition, the module discusses examples of computation applied to neurobiology and cognitive psychology. Team University of Bath/Bristol win UK supercomputing competition students Arnold Gomes and Joseph Dowling take the top spot in the CIUK 2021 student cluster challenge alongside their Bristol team members. This module will introduce you to the general principles and practices of developing software that interacts directly with the hardware and its physical environment. Software has found its way into almost any electronic device with a typical household … This introductory course will provide you with the foundational skillset required to write computer programs.
