
Sherwani, a traditional garment for Men has a royal appeal. Originally, a contribution made by the Mughal rulers, it is now a part of Indian traditional clothing. It was a part of royal clothing during the Mughal era and probably why, it has a royal feel in it. Sherwani is a body hugging garment with closed collars and reaches below knees. Below the Sherwani a tight fitting pant called the Chudidaar is worn.
In India, now the use of Sherwani is limited for wedding occasions. For Men with good height and physique it is now a first choice of traditional wear on their wedding or at a close relative’s wedding. It comes in different colors with rich embroidery, good enough to give a princely look to the groom. Apart from the groom, the close buddies of the groom don’t mind investing money to buy a slightly expensive Sherwani, even if it means not getting to use it more than a couple of times.
The only one drawback with Sherwani is its not suitable during hot climate. The closed collars and body hugging heavy material used in the making of Sherwani can be little too much to handle in scorching heat. In the range of traditional outfits, Sherwani is given more preference than the other traditional garments by the youngsters. There are no age restrictions for wearing a Sherwani however men between the age group of twenty to forty are more commonly seen wearing it. Except some elderly Muslim men who use it as part of their basic clothing.
