India is developing on a rapid speed. The last decade has seen a major change in the lifestyles of Urban India with the influx of Multi-national Companies. The clothing style of women has changed a lot in these years but remains more or less the same for men. Fifty years back ladies were mostly seen in Saris, twenty years back in Saris and Salwar Kameez. And now the trend is Saris, Salwar Kameez and Indo-western clothing. For the men it’s still the pant and the shirt with minimal addition like jeans and T-shirt.
With world turning into a global village, the Urban Indian ladies have lots to experiment with. They are no more dependent on the male member of the house and hence indulge in experimenting with new look.
The modern Clothing is not just about the inclusion of Indo-western clothing but also more varieties in the traditional clothing. The current trend in sari is the heavy embroidered chiffon sari, designer sari etc, while in salwar kameez there are countless new patterns that didn’t exist 50 years back. Hence, the modern clothing also has the traditional outfits coming out in a new disguise.
Even the kids clothing in urban India has seen a revolution in the recent times. Girls between the age group of 3 to 18 years would wear frocks earlier but now they have switched over to jeans, skirts, shorts and so on. As for boys, it’s the same pants, shirts, T-shirt, or shorts with some variety in the material. Overall, a good balance has been maintained by Indians between traditional and western wear.
