One of the most popular Hindu gods, Hanuman stands for courage, wisdom, loyalty, devotion, integrity, physical, mental and spiritual strength. Hanuman is said to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. He is also known as Pawan Putra or son of the wind god, Maruti, Bajrang Bali etc. Lord Hanuman is also known as the monkey god because he was born in a monkey family. He has the face and tail of a monkey but the rest of him is human. His well built body reflects his vast and immense physical strength. This is why he is worshipped most by wrestlers and body builders. The stories of Lord Hanuman`s physical strength are legendary and have been followed by his devotees since ages.
Apart from physical strength, the Lord is also well versed in scriptures and other areas of knowledge, which he is said to have acquired from the sun god. The sun god also requested Hanuman to become the advisor to his son, Sugreev. This paved the way for Hanuman`s meeting with Lord Ram and the role he would play in the war against evil forces of Ravana (Demon King).
He is the greatest devotee and worshipper of Lord Ram. It is because of Hanuman`s invaluable contribution that Ram could win the war against Ravana and his mighty demon force.
The monkey god is a celibate and was blessed with deathless existence. His weapon of choice is a mace. Tuesday is considered as the most auspicious day for the worship of Lord Hanuman as the day and the god are both associated with planet Mars.
