
Buddha who is yet to come. In Sum-tsek, the image of Maitreya is decorated with round frames, each containing story from the life of the last historical Buddha. Lotsawa Lha-khang and Manjushri Lha-khangn.These are two small adjoining shrines that share a similar plan. The square shrine has four central columns that hold up the raised roof. Within the shrine of Manjushri are four large plaster images of the Bodhisattva, of no great antiquity.
The murals of the temple follow the theme of the Thousand Buddhas, while Goddesses and guardians dominate the wall space. The Lotsawa Lha-khang is one of the few temples found dedicated to Rinchen Zang-po, the venerated teacher and renowned translator of Buddhist lore. Lha-khang Soma This structure is of a later date than the other shrines at Alchi. Within the small square room is a chorten or votive stupa. Columns that support the roof have wonderful carved brackets with lion faces.
On the Western Wall of the shrine are three large painted mandalas, on the northern is the image of Vairochana, and on the eastern the image of the Buddha surrounded by Bodhisattvas and guardian figures. The doorway is decorated and protected as usual with the image of Mahakala.
